On March 6, PCSGV will continue what has become an annual event to bring hope to the homeless: The Way of the Cross, with the Stabat Mater of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. During this performance, a free will offering will be collected, the proceeds of which will be donated to the East San Gabriel Valley Coalition for the Homeless.
In becoming a chorister of PCSGV our young singers join a tradition of fine singing and music education which is now well into its third decade. Please join us at 7:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Covina.
Alongside the loveliness of all these performances is something beyond tangible value which I frequently bring up in rehearsal with our singers. I continue to marvel over it and hope the children recognize it as well. In preparing for this event I ask the children if any of them could reach into their pockets and pull out $1,000 dollars to support the good work of the East San Gabriel Valley Coalition for the Homeless. Their response is always one of willingness but of course, at such a young age, they lack the personal resources to extend such a gift. At this low point I share a reflection which reverses the frustration of the choristers, that the beauty of their singing is doing exactly that which they feel is not possible. In response to their singing, the generosity of their audiences and benefactors have indeed been awakened, attracted by the talents of our young singers to contribute many thousands of dollars in support of the most urgent requirements of those in dire need. In this way it is hoped, through the beauty of their singing, PCSGV performs works of charity which are the foundation of Christ’s message,
“That which you do for the least of my brothers and sisters, you do for me”— Matthew 25:40
Please join us at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on March 6, 2020, at 7 PM to support this worthy cause. Free will donations will be collected at the event, all of which will be donated to the East San Gabriel Valley Coalition for the Homeless.
